Two Diff'rent Worlds

pity not the poet,
who is happy enough
just loving the moon,
whom he knows well
that he can't reach,
even if only
with his verses

pity, instead, the wolf, who
in baying at that moon,
does so very quietly,
out of real fear that his howls
just might disturb her.

Pity the moon, too,
never knowing how intensely
she is being loved
by so many from afar.

Blame ye only
the yawning chasm
between their worlds.
